What if you can't get to the cloud?

Encrypted hard drives are a better option in my opinion. At least in my business you can't always get to the cloud; copies of data will be on the hard drive. Encrypting the entire drive is a very reasonable option for enterprises.

Are you saying in the event that your MacBook Air is confiscated that it is no great lost? Compare to may be losing something of significance. My advise is to make sure you have your data backed up to usb. If it is confidential - encrypted it - password protect it. That way you keep your data from big brother.
