Can IT managers save themselves?

Really, how many standards already exist that are NOT being followed? Whether ITIL, NSF, NIST or ISO, there is no shortage of best practices available. The problem has been that people don't like to commit to a rigid process. Especially for IT personnel who mostly still embrace their mystical qualities and shun any attempt to provide visibility into their secret Kingdoms. Can ITIL save storage? The better question would have been, can IT save themselves?
