Microsoft Active Directory has to be properly setup with the necessary permissions for the four critical users. The Cisco Unity Syscheck tool is used to verify the system is setup properly before installing Cisco Unity. The Cisco Unity setup.exe program executes the Cisco Unity Installation and Configuration Assistant (CUICA) tool which is a seven step configuration utility. The seven steps of CUICA are as follows:

1. Install Cisco Unity
2. Install the Cisco Unity License Files
3. Configure the Cisco Unity Services
4. Configure the Cisco Unity Message Store
5. Set Default Passwords
6. Integrate the Phone System with Cisco Unity
7. Setup SSL for Cisco Unity

Cisco Unity integration parameters can be tuned after initial integration with the manage integrations tool available from the Unity Windows program group or Cisco Unity tools depot.

Unity administration takes place over a web browser in a system known as the system administrator (SA). The URL for the Unity SA is http:///web/sa. The SA is a frame based web site which includes configuration menus on the left hand side of the screen. The screen capture in the following hyperlink is a picture of the Unity SA from Unity:

The menu options on the left hand side of the screen will change when options are selected. The Subscribers hyperlink in the previous hyperlink was clicked and the resulting screen change is displayed in the hyperlink below.

Notice that the menu options on the left hand side of the page. The configuration menu options now displayed are all subscriber related settings. The top of the page is now framed with a command menu bar. The menu bar icons are as follows (from left to right): save, find, add, delete, online help, and context sensitive help. The save button is currently grayed out because there have not been any changes on the page that require saving the page. The find icon would allow us find a different a different subscriber in the Unity SA. The + icon would add a subscriber to the system, while the X icon would delete the subscriber from the system. The online help (book icon) would display all of the Unity documentation that is loaded on the Unity server. Online is not used to indicate any Internet connectivity. The ? icon will display question marks next to every configuration option on the page. Clicking the question mark next to a configuration option will result in a popup window with a basic description of the configuration attribute.
The next blog will continue our coverage of Unity configuration.
