Hasbro, realizing that iPhone and iPod touch enthusiasts might have such a hard time putting down their gadgets to actually play NERF Lazer Tag, will soon combine Apple technologies with its popular shoot-em-up game.

Coming this August, Hasbro is promising an upgraded Lazer Tag game that combines "the power, precision and excitement of live-action blaster battles with the high-action, strategic, augmented reality gameplay of traditional video games."

Players will download a free Lazer Tag app to their iPhone or iPod touch, and then slip the device into their blaster for single- or multi-player fun. The Lazer Tag blasters outfitted with Apple devices will offer users a "heads up display" that lets them keep track of their weapon and remaining power, track where they stand on a global leaderboard, and provide a virtual firing range of 205+ feet.

The NERF brand products are recommended for ages 8 and older and a set of two blasters costs $70, come Aug. 1.

Hasbro is no stranger to Apple and its technologies. In fact, Hasbro even has an App Store offering dubbed Play-Doh Play-Dates ("Moms get fun themed Play-Date ideas including step-by-step instructions for colorful Play-Doh creation, paper crafts, and yummy snacks.")

Hasbro isn't the first to come up with ways to integrate the iPhone or iPod touch with gun-like toys. Others include Xappr and appBlaster, as covered here by Engadget
